The currency of 2024

The currency of 2024 is positivity. How can we stay optimistic when we are sandwiched between 2 extreme influences? On one hand, you have the extreme negativity of the News. The constant fear-mongering, the doomsday approach of most, if not all, the News channels that push a pessimistic worldview on us. The continual worst-case scenario narrative we watch on the News is depressing, to say the least. Then, on the other hand, we have extreme positivity toward social media. Carefully filtered, choreographed and highly orchestrated videos by “influencers” presenting an artificial lifestyle that is near impossible for most of us to achieve. There is relentless pressure to be perfect.Don’t get me wrong, I am sure my life would be better and I would “achieve” a lot more if I woke up at 3 am every day, read 3 books a day, drank 3 gallons of water and exercised 3 times a day!As a mother of 3 young children, with a business to run during a major economic crisis, those ‘objectives’ aren’t realistic and are not for me! I can just about walk up the stairs these days given how bad my knees are!And so, we find ourselves constantly bouncing between extreme positivity and extreme negativity and this, in my opinion, is one of the factors that is damaging mental and causing low self-esteem and low morale. And ultimately resulting in people feeling unfulfilled. The solution. Try to take the middle ground and do everything in moderation and to the best of your ability. Life is short. Enjoy the finer moments.Let’s spend more time with family and friends.  Exercise where possible. Think, pray and reflect. And above all, avoid Social Media and the News like the plague!
