Surahs all Muslims should memorise

The Quran was given to humanity as a means of guidance. It’s a mercy and a blessing, and we’ve been taught to read it properly and frequently. It’s terrible that we, as an Ummah, have gone away from Allah’s most sacred and most blessed book; technology and worldly things have all taken over our lives, and some of us barely have time to study it.

Each Surah or chapter in the Quraan is significant in its own right, but there are a few Surahs that provide additional blessings and advantages. The following Surahs are particularly important for us to memorise because they each have their own importance.

Surah Kahf

Surah Kahf is a Surah that should be recited before Jummah Salah every Friday morning. For protection against the Dajjal, it is suggested that the first ten ayahs be memorised (false messiah). It also serves as a source of forgiveness and protection from fitnah. The Nur (Light) of Allah will shine from that person when it is said.

Surah Yaseen

The heart of the Quran is this Surah. Allah would reward a person who recites Surah Yaseen every day as if he or she had read the entire Quran ten times, according to the Prophet Muhammad SAWS. The Prophet further stated that whomever reads the heart of the Quran and keeps it in their hearts will be loved by him. It is advised that we recite it after Fajr every morning.

Surah Waqiah

The Surah of Wealth, or Surah Waqiah, is a popular name for Surah Waqiah. The Prophet Muhammad SAWS used to claim that anyone who recite this surah every night will never be poor. The Prophet also advised that we read it and teach it to our children. It is a Surah that alleviates suffering and provides numerous worldly benefits in relation to our financial conditions.

Surah Mulk

Surah Mulk is a short surah with only 30 verses, yet according to the Prophet, it is this surah that would intercede for us on the Day of Judgment and make a plea to Allah on our behalf. It’s also a surah of forgiveness, and while there’s no limit to how many times you can read it in a day, it’s best to read it immediately before bed.

Surah Ikhlas-Falaq-Naas

The three Quls are the names given to these three Surahs. They are the Surahs that will keep us safe from all kinds of evil. This is why the Prophet would read these Surahs at all hours of the day and night. Surah Ikhlas is equivalent to reciting one-third of the Quran.
