Meghan-Harry Interview: Greed destroys family bonds

In Shariah gossip is sharing information that ought not to be shared. Since it may or may not be true. It’s making assumptions about other people. It’s talking about someone who isn’t present, it’s making a moral judgement about them. People think it’s okay to share information that shouldn’t be shared because they believe it is true. It’s information that is supposed to be confidential. A person who routinely spreads private rumours as though they are facts is a backbiter. Their aim is to damage the reputation of the other person.

The Quran teaches, “Believers, do not be suspicious since some suspicions are sins. Neither spy on one another nor backbite about each other. Would anyone of you like to eat the meat of his dead brother? Never! You would hate it. So be fearful of Allah. Allah is indeed forgiving Caring.” (Al-Hujjarat:12)

The mistress of teasing and manipulation Oprah Winfrey interviewed Prince Harry and Meghan, it was watched by millions of people globally. This was a self-serving, carefully stage-managed publicity stunt that consisted of gossiping and seeking sympathy through victimhood.

The major undercurrent of this interview was racism, and not been given respect. We must commiserate with victims of racism and hate crime, no one should suffer it. However, Meghan’s claims were unsubstantiated, without names and without evidence. Could this be just an outpouring of angst and loneliness? Reflection of her inner turmoil and psychological instability?

Meghan’s accusations of racism are imaginary than real. Take the question about the colour of the child. This is not a racist question, it’s a common question when the father and mother have different skin colours, people are curious. Racism is serious it’s facing hateful, violent attacks verbal and physical abuse. Do you remember George Floyd?

Why is this young couple picking a fight with their family, the family that gave them privilege, made them millionaires and gave them the stardom?

The Meghan-Harry interview has saddened many people, since it undermines the loving institution of family, the foundation of human society, the bearer of moral standards and goodness. We need the family and it needs supporting not knocking down.

Why is this interview and the gossiping wrong?

Rejection of Loyalty and Manners

it is sign of the time that people have sunk to such low levels where people treat one another like dirt. They gossip, find faults in others, abuse and dish the dirt. From moral point of view this interview was gossiping. It’s Haram, it was just in bad taste, bad manners were displayed. A sign of good people is loyalty to their families and friends, in this interview we witnessed the opposite, betrayal.

Abandoning Socio-Spiritual values

Most human beings have an amazing sense of truth, justice, and kindness. Unfortunately, we saw none of this in the interview and therefore lacks the warmth and human dignity.

Hunting for Money

Some people think the main reasons for the interview were fame, revenge and of course money. “Oprah the multi-millionaire interviews another couple of millionaires about how poor and victimised they are – and how some other millionaires have treated them badly. This mega wealthy couple complain about their victimhood.”

What should they have done?

Being a royal is an enormous privilege and an opportunity to serve the country and the world. A decent couple would admit their shortcomings, seek reconciliation, and relish the opportunity to do public service. That’s the honourable way.
